Anna Nunes Owner/Director/Instructor/Choreographer
Originally from Madeira Island, Portugal, Anna has been a resident in the Palm Beach County area since 1974. She has studied under various respected instructors; and has been teaching since 1987 in all forms of dance including: Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Ballet, and Tap, to all ages and levels. Although she has taught at several studios, the bulk of her teaching was at Klein Dance from 1988 through 2006.
Some of her choreographic accomplishments include commissioned works for several of the Klein Dance Fall Performance festivals and the Young Choreographers/Visiting Artists series, The Florida Dance Festival (where she showcased her work “Coming Home”), Opening Ceremony for The Sunshine State Games, Sunfest, Palm Beach Atlantic Spring Dance Concert, Royal Palm Theatre musicals: Dames at Sea, The Goodbye Girl, Company, Dracula the Musical, Heartbeats, and Fame for Lake Worth High School. Anna has also presented her own concerts, including "Exploring the Many Faces of Love" in 1999, which received excellent reviews from local media critics.
Anna was a member of the Demetrius Klein Dance Company (Nationally acclaimed professional Modern Dance Co.) for several years, where she performed throughout the state, including a shared concert with Mikhail Baryshnikov (White Oak Dance Project) in Ocean Dances 2000 in Hollywood, Florida.
Anna is also a certified Yoga instructor and has been teaching Ashtanga (Power), Vinyasa and Hatha Yoga since 1999. In recent years she has also developed and taught her own Latin based Fitness Class called Latin Jam.
In June 2009 Anna and her daughter Jessica opened Downtown Dance, where she continues to direct, teach, choreograph and present multiple productions throughout the year.
Anna started her own Contemporary Dance Company based out of Downtown Dance in 2012 called AGWA Dance Company.
Jessica Dos Santos Owner/Director/Instructor/Choreographer
Jazz/Contemporary/Ballet/Hip Hop/Tap/Creative Dance
Jessica was born and raised in West Palm Beach Florida. She has been dancing since the age of 2. Most of her dance training took place at Klein Dance where she was trained in ballet, pointe, modern, tap, jazz, and hip hop. She also attended Bak Middle School of the Arts as a dance major and was co-captain of their award winning dance team. Jessica danced with Miami City Ballet in the Nutcracker for 2 years. She was also a part of the Demetrius Klein Company II for several years. Jessica has performed in many venues in different cities including: West Palm Beach, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami, FL; Port Saint Lucie, FL; Stuart, FL; Fort Pierce, FL; Orlando, FL; Tampa, FL; Atlanta, GA; Los Angeles, CA; and Macau, China.
Jessica was a member of Hues Dance Company in 2011, and a back up dancer for pop artist J Randall. She has danced in several music videos including J Randall’s worldwide single “Spirit of the Radio” from the motion picture Step Up 3D. She was an original member of the interactive Hip Hop performing group LOUD LIVE, where they performed all over Florida and were invited to audition for America’s Got Talent. Since 2012, Jessica has been an active member of AGWA Dance Company, a professional Contemporary Dance Company based out of Downtown Dance.
In June 2009 Jessica and her mother Anna opened Downtown Dance, a dance studio for all ages and all levels of experience; where she serves as director, teacher, choreographer and presenter. She teaches in many disciplines of dance including: Creative Dance, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary and Hip Hop; where she enjoys sharing her love of dance with her students.
Sarah Hollywood Instructor
Sarah-Elizabeth Hollywood began dancing at age 7 with Ballet Florida and Klein Dance. Ms. Hollywood also attended U.B. Kinsey Elementary School of the Arts as a Dance Major with Minors in Chorus and Violin, and Bak Middle School of the Arts as a Dance Major. At 13 Ms. Hollywood trained with Joan Miller at Palm Beach Ballet Center as a member of the Senior Company. During her summers she traveled to attend Virginia School of the Arts with Petrus Bosman.
In 2010 Ms. Hollywood moved to Panama City Beach, FL to train with Prof. Peggy Willis-Aarnio at the Willis Conservatory of Classical Ballet where she received a full scholarship for both the Conservatory and training in the Teaching Method of Classical Ballet.
Ms. Hollywood was promoted to a Soloist with The Willis Ballet after 3 months of training and was able to tour with The St. Petersburg Classic Ballet Theater of Marina Medvetskaya, where she revived private coaching from Prima Ballerina Yulia Yashina and Marina Medvetskaya.
In 2012 when Ms. Hollywood's training in the Teaching Method of Classical Ballet was complete she became the director of the Open Ballet Program and was Co-Choreographer to Prof. Peggy Willis-Aarnio for WCCB's Spring Concert featuring "Carnival of the Animals".
Ms. Hollywood has performed many roles in Marie Hale's "The Nutcracker" with Ballet Florida, "Romeo and Juliet", "Giselle" 1st Act, Diamond Fairy from"Sleeping Beauty", Prof. Peggy Willis-Aarnio's "The Nutcracker" and most recently as the Snow Queen in "The Nutcracker" with Downtown-Dance. This is Ms. Hollywood's 2nd year dancing with Downtown-Dance and is very pleased to begin teaching this year with Downtown-Dance.
Hope Powell Instructor/Choreographer
Born and raised in South Florida, Hope Powell began dancing at the age of two. She studied and danced competitively in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, acrobatics and hip hop.
Hope has learned from some amazing choreographers throughout her dance career; Dustin Phillips, Darren Henson, Barry Youngblood, Katie Wiegman, just to name a few. During her high school years at Seminole Ridge, she worked at her dance studio assisting in classes and working the front desk. She soon began choreographing and teaching her own classes.
Hope was also on the Hawks Football Cheer Squad and enrolled in advanced dance classes during school. For Hope’s freshmen year of college she was a Dancing E'Gal at Florida Gulf Coast University. She is currently studying Elementary Education.
Hopes dream is to own her own studio and to share her passion of dance with all of her students.
Jamie Jacobs Instructor/Choreographer
Jaime Jacobs is originally from West Palm Beach, Florida. She began her dance journey at Nicole's Dance Studio in Palm Beach Gardens, FL at the age of 2. It was there that Nicole Gorham created a ballet, jazz, modern, TAP and contemporary student that would become a BAK Middle School of the Arts alumni, Dreyfoos High School of the Arts alumni and professional dancer with Dance Caravan.
In her early years Jaime toured the country with a competitive team that would grow to win over 500 awards. Jaime was the first ever Access Broadway Triple Threat winner and developed a love for Tap dancing as a result. After attending college in Tallahassee, FL and spending time in New York to study her craft, Jaime returned to West Palm Beach to share her talents and special teaching style to hundred of students around south Florida.
Jaime was awarded the Spotlight award in 2012 for her choreography which which gave birth to her dance company Sole Destiny Project. Jaime hopes to dance forever and is always eager and seeking to teach as many students as she possibly can.
Melissa Uftring Instructor
Acro/Strength & Conditioning
Coach Melissa Uftring is a PhD scholar in Health and Human Performance and
holds the prestigious CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist)
through the NSCA. Her masters degree is in Kinesiology-Sports Performance,
and she is certified as a Child and Adult Yoga Instructor (NGY, YN), Group
Fitness Instructor (ACE), Personal Trainer (ACSM) and Tactical Strength and
Conditioning Facilitator (NSCA).
